Altar Guild

 

The  purpose of the Altar Guild is to care for the Altar area, its furnishings, linens, paraments, and appointments. Members  wear white gloves whenever touching Communion Vessels.  Special preparations are made  for the church seasons of Lent, Palm Sunday, Easter, Christmas, as well as all Baptisms.

The meaning of the Liturgical Colors

BLACK – implies ashes, humiliation and mourning.

BLUE – symbolizes hope and is used during Advent.

GOLD – is the color for Easter which represents Enthronement.

GREEN – is symbolic of growth and is used after Pentecost and the Epiphany.

PURPLE – symbolizes royalty and penitence and is the color for Lent.

RED – represents blood or fire of the Holy Spirit. Red is used on Pentecost, Reformation and during Holy Week to represent passion.

WHITE – is used for festival of Christ including Christmas, Epiphany and Easter. It symbolizes gladness, purity, light and the joy of Christ.
